Collage backdrop; Newest backdrop for SMN!
Starting off on my new role with the Public Relations team for Boys Golf, I wanted to bring something fresh and creative to the table for Media Day. Inspired by college programs that used custom backdrops, I brought the idea to my teachers. Although they knew it would be a challenging project, they believed in my ability to pull it off.
As soon as I got the green light, I jumped into designing various graphic elements that could be featured on the backdrop. After creating several mockups, I was given three 9-foot-tall wooden panels to work with. From there, I began the long process of cutting, gluing, and Mod Podging the designs onto the boards.
This project required countless hours both inside and outside the classroom. During every media class, I was hands-on with the backdrop, and on several occasions, I stayed after school until 6 p.m. to make sure everything looked just right and would be ready in time.
While the backdrop was originally created for Boys Golf, it didn’t get as much recognition at first. However, the media program at HSE was so impressed by the final product that they decided to repurpose it for fall sports as well. Seeing it become a staple for multiple teams was incredibly rewarding.
I’m proud of the dedication and effort I put into this project. Not only did it push me creatively, but it also left a lasting impact on how our school handles Media Day. Every time I walk past the backdrop in our lab, I’m reminded of how one idea turned into something that elevated our entire media program.
